Eight Years of Blogging Has Happened!

In just a few short years, the Duck’s blog will be a decade old.  But until then…this Monday (July 16) is my blog’s eighth birthday.  If my blog was a human child, it would be in…third grade?  It’s been yet another crazy year of madness, and this post was put on this Earth to talk about it.  Here we go!

Well, clearly this here blog is still going strong, but did you know that Virtual Bastion is now five years old?  (The gaming blog of which I am one of three admins, alongside Cary of Recollections of Play and Hatm0nster, in case you didn’t know.)  Our gaming Youtube channel will be three years old in August.  In that time, I upgraded my video software from Movie Maker to Adobe Premiere and got a component cable that allows me to connect the Wii to the capture card for recording purposes.  The games I recorded are:

  • Mega Man X (SNES)
  • Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (PS2)
  • Little Nightmares: The Complete Edition (PS4)
  • Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (PS4)
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U)
  • Luigi’s Mansion (GCN)
  • Vexx (GCN)
  • Rayman 3 (GCN)
  • Pikmin (GCN)

In addition, the other games I played, but did not record, are:

  • Super Mario World (SNES)
  • Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
  • New Super Mario Bros U (Wii U)
  • Okami (Wii)
  • Undertale (PS4)
  • The Last Guardian (PS4)
  • Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)
  • Final Fantasy VI (PS1): I am currently on disc 2

Wow, that’s a lot of games….  I also want to specifically mention Undertale, which is one of the best games I have ever played, and I seriously regret taking two years to get around to playing it.

I have gotten pretty obsessed with Undertale (oh, the sheer amount of Undertale merchandise I have purchased from Fangamer…I regret none of it), and it is the reason I returned to two of my abandoned hobbies, piano and drawing.  I’ve already learned several songs, and my drawing has improved, as well.  I also created a Deviant Art account as a place to share my art with fellow artists and art-lovers.  I guess you can say that Undertale has filled me with…determination!

One hobby that has been put on hold for the time being is cosplay.  Because it is expensive.  And super time-consuming.  And I’m getting tired of being burned by hot glue.  Of course, if a lot of money suddenly falls from the sky, I’d like to return to cosplay again.  The top two characters I’d love to cosplay as right now are Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Sally from The Nightmares Before Christmas.

You might be wondering why I don’t wish to cosplay as anyone from Undertale.  Well, I actually do, but cosplaying as a skeleton sounds really tough….

I also made t-shirts available on SpreadShirt, both on my very own SpreadShop and Marketplace page, so there’s that, too.  It’s been a productive year indeed!

And now it’s time for some silly stats.  Total views increased from 29,061 to 33,289, while my subscribers have increased from 349 to 377.  My best day is still December 9, 2012 with 208 views, which I find very odd.  What the heck happened, and how can I do it again?  I have also written 479 blog posts.

Well, I guess this upcoming year, I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing.  Blogging and gaming and drawing and piano…ing and just generally being the weird Duck that I am.  I hope you guys have enjoyed visiting my blog as much as I have enjoyed writing it!  I’d like to end this post by thanking all my dear readers, those who have subscribed, left kind comments, clicked the like button, or who simply read in silence.  Thank you all!

  1. Happy blogging birthday, Duck! With so many blogs falling by the waist side after only being around for a short time, finding and growing one’s niche in the blogosphere is a very special thing. Best wishes for continued success, and hopefully your blog will remain tantrum-free…unlike a third grader. 🙂

  2. Happy Birthday Duck’s blog! Are you streaming or posting your play-throughs anywhere? I recently found out we have a capture card that will work for one of our newer systems, but I’ve yet to give it a try 🙂

      1. I’d like to record some Final Fantasy games someday, but I currently don’t have any good FF games on consoles compatible with my capture card. I’m sure I can figure something out in the future, though. I really want to record Final Fantasy 6, 7, and 10, as they’re my favorites in the series.

And thanks for subscribing to our channel!

      2. I *think* the capture card my husband has will work for the PS4 but not the PS3 because they have some over the top security. So technically I could play anything I could download, but I haven’t tested this yet. I really should try it so I know what I’m working with. I think Sony realized people wanted to stream so they made it a bit easier in the future.

      3. Yeah, the PS3 is really picky with what you can record. I tried to record a game on my PS3 through the HDMI cable a few months ago, only to realize I couldn’t turn off the Copyright Protection. My capture card is also compatible with component, but not composite, so I bought a component cable for the PS3, but…it doesn’t fit. So, no PS3 recording for me.

By the way, if you record any games on your PS4, make sure you turn off HDCP in the settings. I couldn’t record anything until I did that.
