Bravely Default 2: Demo Review

Although I am indeed an RPG fan, I feel like there’s just so many RPG’s out there that one would really need to catch my eye in order to entice me to buy it.  One such series that I’ve always passed over was Bravely Default, which, aside from having a rather odd name, didn’t appear to be much different from other RPG’s I’ve already played.  But when I discovered a demo for Bravely Default 2 from 2021, I thought it couldn’t hurt to give it a try, considering money wasn’t involved.  The demo has a five-hour time limit and takes place during part of Chapter 1: Chasing Mirages.  It would seem our four heroes, who are already nicely leveled up, are searching for the stolen Water Crystal in the desert kingdom of Savalon.

Oninaki: Demo Review

Oninaki is an action-RPG created by Tokyo RPG Factory where you play as a Watcher, someone who brings peace to the dead and helps guide them to the next world.  The game features real-time combat, and you fight alongside different spirits called Daemons.  As someone who usually likes games with darker stories, I have to admit that the game was a bit depressing to me, as the first ghost we encounter is a young boy who wishes to see his parents one last time.  I also felt that the cutesy aesthetic didn’t seem super fitting for the game’s somber tone.

Crystal Chronicles: Have I Been Playing All Wrong?

It feels like the GameCube era of games falls into an odd middle ground where they’re just old enough that getting your hands on them is hard, but they’re also too new to be included on Virtual Console or the Switch’s online service.  So when I saw that the Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles HD remake was on sale on the PS4, I jumped at the chance to buy it.  (My other reason is for recording the game for YouTube.  GameCube games also tend to be difficult to record, considering they aren’t HDMI-compatible.)  Having not played the game for 15 years, this recent playthrough opened my eyes to the fact that…I know surprisingly little about this game, despite having beaten it multiple times.

World of Final Fantasy: Demo Review

World of Final Fantasy is a game I’ve had a passing interest in for the last couple of years, even though I knew nothing about it, except for the vague notion that it featured Final Fantasy characters from across the franchise.  It wasn’t until quite recently, however, that I decided to check out the “Dungeon Demo”, which enlightened me to the fact that this game seems to be a mix of Final Fantasy and Pokemon.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories: Demo Review

Any long-time fan of Kingdom Hearts will know that the series has gotten rather difficult to follow over the years.  And I’m not just talking about the overly complicated plot.  The main, numbered games in the series started on the PS2, and it makes sense that the eventual sequel would find its way onto the PS4 many years later.  But if you wanted to keep up with the rest of the games, you would have needed: a GameBoy Advance, a PlayStation Portable, a Nintendo DS, and a Nintendo 3DS.  Oh, and there’s a mobile game now.

100 Theme Blog Challenge No. 26: Tears

Today’s theme is tears, and I’ve been thinking a lot on this one, as I didn’t know how to write about tears without being depressing.  We’ve all had sad experiences in our lives, so who wants to rehash them?  But sometimes, ironically enough, being sad is sometimes a pleasant experience, a good way to release emotions and end up feeling happier as a result.  To quote Sally Sparrow from my favorite Dr. Who episode Blink, sad is “happy for deep people”.  So in today’s post, I thought I’d list a few of my favorite sad things. Day 22: A Game Sequel Which Disappointed You

As I slowly inch my way forward through the 30 days’ worth of video game topics, I arrive upon a pretty easy one, a game sequel which disappointed me.  One game in particular springs to mind, but since it is such an obvious choice, I also wanted to briefly discuss one of the biggest crimes a sequel can commit.  For me, anyway.  We’ll see if you agree. Inktober 2019 Highlights Week 1

Good day, dear readers!  I decided to do Inktober this year, which is a little drawing event where you get a topic for every day in October to draw and ink, either digitally or in the traditional way.  You can start the first day of September, which means I have been giving myself two days per picture.  And let me tell you, I am feeling extremely tired from drawing far more than I’m used to…. Knights of the Round is Overpowered (and I’m Glad)

In the near past, I had been working through my second playthrough of the amazing Final Fantasy VII, a PS1 classic that surely needs no introduction.  While I adore this game and am happy to say it is one of the few games I went into with high expectations, and was not disappointed, I gotta say I hate the final boss.  The first part, Jenova-Synthesis, is fine.  Bizarro Sephiroth is really…bizarre, but not that bad once I started fighting this monstrosity properly.  But the weirdly-named Safer Sephiroth (what makes him so safe?) is pure agony because of the super boring, super long, Supernova attack.
