If you’re a fan of the Haunted Mansion, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with the infamous Hatbox Ghost. This mysterious figure was originally intended to be a part of the ride, but he was removed shortly after the Haunted Mansion opened to mortals like you and me. His brief appearance caused some confusion and also gave rise to a rather intriguing legend. Had anyone really seen this ghoulish Hatbox Ghost or was he a mere hallucination? For a ride revolving around a haunted estate inhabited by 999 “happy haunts”, it was all the more chilling for one of these ghosts to have seemingly vanished without a trace. To this day, they say that no record remains of what became of the original Hatbox Ghost figure. Of course, that’s not the end of the story, nor is it quite the beginning. You’ve read my posts. You’ve listened to me jabber on whilst playing random games on Youtube. You’ve seen me in full cosplay regalia. And yet, even so, the Duck of Indeed has remained an elusive creature, only spotted briefly during full moons, eclipses, and if you happen to visit a Subway at just the right time. If you take a picture of the Duck of Indeed, it, just like any photo taken of a Bigfeet or a UFO, turns out blurred and uncertain. Does the Duck of Indeed even exist? Has it all merely been a strange and unsettling dream!
How does a Duck even type when birds don’t have thumbs? Do such questions not unsettle you! Continue reading The Duck of Indeed…Now in HD
The Duck’s grand tour of the rides we visited at Disneyland continues in the aptly titled part two! We’ve already discussed the lesser-amazing (but still pretty delightful) rides we visited, and now it’s time for the top six. Which means the best of the best is coming up! (Again, we did not go on any scary rides, which mainly includes: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and um…Matterhorn.) Sit back and prepare to read some more overly detailed descriptions of cool stuff! You know you love it! Continue reading The Duck’s Disneyland Ride Tour 2017 Part 2
One of the first things that surely springs to mind when people think about Disneyland, after Walt Disney himself, of course, and Mickey Mouse, and Sleeping Beauty Castle…um, well, after all that…is the rides! Right? Yeah, the rides! On the most part, there is almost nothing that can compete with the rides at Disneyland or any of the other Disney parks in terms of sheer detail and imagination, and we had some very specific plans in mind when we got there.
In the past, we would only really visit the few main rides we liked most, and that was all. But this time, we vowed to do things a bit differently. This time, we were going to try out as many rides as we could, including a good number of new ones (many of them were new for me; some of them were new for mom). And now you surely must know what comes next. Yes, it’s time to rank our chosen Disneyland rides from not-as-best to best! (Just know that this list does not include any fast or otherwise scary rides. Which mainly includes anything that looks like a mountain, smells or tastes like a mountain, or has “mountain” in the title.) Continue reading The Duck’s Disneyland Ride Tour 2017 Part 1
While the best part of Disneyland is undeniably the rides, to be sure (and the scenery and the shows!), a trip to this fair kingdom of happiness would not be complete without some delicious morsels (the calories of which have the added benefit of being burned away thanks to the great distances we walked over the course of those two delightful days). I’ve already discussed the meals we had during our time at Disneyland, but let’s not forget the most important part, the desserts, which shall be listed below for your reading enjoyment, from least best to most best! Continue reading The Duck’s Disneyland Dessert Tour 2017
Three months before my mom and I spent a delightful weekend at Disneyland, our trip was still but a distant dream. All we could do was wait and prepare. Our preparations included one thing we take very seriously, food. Considering Disneyland is not a place we can go every day, it is rather important that we don’t miss out on any scrumptious morsel. By the end of the very busy week during which we bought our tickets (both to Disneyland itself and the Disneyland Resort Express bus), set up our flights, and booked a hotel room, we were already pretty familiar with the meals and treats most people ranked pretty high on their lists, in addition to having hunted these places down on the Disneyland app to get an idea of where they could be found. Maybe this kills all notions of spontaneity, but with food, you can never be too careful. Below the Duck shall rank the food we tried at Disneyland, from least best to most best! For this post, let’s start with what many people like to call “real food”. Continue reading The Duck’s Disneyland Food Tour 2017
So, I have this Disneyland app. I have almost never in my life downloaded an app before, save for some free antivirus for my phone, but for once, this particular app looked pretty darn useful. It shows you wait times for rides, locations of restaurants and shops. And it shows you where various characters can be found.
I was so excited for my upcoming trip to Disneyland that I was constantly checking this app just for the fun of it and getting a general idea of the wait times for different rides throughout the day. I learned that certain rides close temporarily throughout the day (so if my favorite ride is closed, I mustn’t fret, as it will probably return shortly…as long as it’s not under…refurbishment!). I even learned where all the characters can typically be found. While I don’t exactly care about tracking down any particular Disney characters, I find the whole notion of seeing where they are on a map rather amusing. For the last three months or so, I have been keeping a secret. Before you begin jumping to conclusions, no, I am not secretly a goose. I was actually planning a trip with my mom to Disneyland. The secret was not from her. She knew all about it. The secret was just from everyone else because I wanted it to be a surprise. (Yes, I did recently enter a sweepstakes, the prize to which would have been a free trip to Disneyland. Clearly such a thing was not necessary when I already had a trip planned to that very place. Nevertheless, who can pass up the chance to win a free trip to the “happiest place on Earth”? And in case you were wondering, no, I didn’t win.) I am a historically unlucky person. This is not a complaint, per say, but a simple fact. I regret that this is so, but alas, it is so very so. I first became aware of the inexplicable animosity Lady Luck feels for me when I was a duckling, and I entered a simple elementary school-wide contest. There were various baskets filled with goodies, and we simply needed to place our tickets on the baskets we wanted most, and the ensuing drawing would determine the winners. Based on the number of baskets, there should have been dozens of winners, if I recall correctly. The fact that I didn’t win anything was not the baffling part. What was, mind you, was the strange fact that nearly every one of my friends was the proud winner of something. Aargh, my much younger self had said. No, I was not a pirate back then, but aargh was my unhappy response, nonetheless.
As upset as I was on that sad day back during my ducklinghood, the situation remains now an amusing conundrum more than anything. Alas, I could be struck by lightning on a clear and cloudless day, if fate willed it! In fact, I once fell down…probably one of the only times in my life that I fell flat on my life, more or less, and what was there to break my fall? Why, a cactus. Yes, a cactus. I had to pull about half a dozen long, thick needles from my hand, and the ring finger of my left hand, which had been pierced in the joint, remained paralyzed for about a month afterward. At the time of my unfortunate tumble, I tried to soothe my wound with a bit of water, and do you know what happened next? I got chased by a bee. No joke. I think it was a thirsty bee, but either way, I did not appreciate its company in that moment. Continue reading Who Will Win the Kingdom Hearts Sweepstakes?
Remember puzzle wall? Sure you do. You just don’t remember that you remember puzzle wall. Ahem, well, my rather mundane quest to decorate the emptiest wall of my room has finally proven to be a success. All the puzzles have been safely returned to their box (sniff, I miss them, but surely I’ll figure out a way to hang them up properly in the future), and my Disney posters have just arrived in the mail. There are five of them, all vintage, 50’s-style, which I really like. Four are small posters for the park and various attractions and the last and largest of them all is a neat Peter Pan poster.
