Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain is one of those educational games similar to Brain Age that help you to exercise your brain with a variety of activities that challenges your mental prowess in five categories: identify, memorize, analyze, compute, and visualize. The demo includes three mini games. Whack Match challenges you to whack moles with the matching picture, Balloon Burst requires you to pop balloons from the lowest value to the highest, and Shadow Shift asks you to match the objects with their shadows.
While I’ve never played a game in the Big Brain Academy series before, I am somewhat familiar with Brain Age. I remember the game being available on my Nintendo DS for free, so I can only assume that it was some smaller version of a larger game. While most of my memories with the game are foggy, I do remember having to answer math problems using the (frequently inaccurate) touch pad. In the end, I would receive my brain age, which was usually much higher than my actual age!
Big Brain Academy seems a bit different…and a lot more entertaining. Instead, there are mini games in five different categories (as listed at the start of this post), and you get a nice hefty score depending on how well you did. In addition, the better the score, the more medals you earn, which unlock outfits for your character. There is also a multiplayer mode called Ghost Clash where you can compete online, which a lot of people seem to like.
Obviously, this type of game is intended for a more niche audience, but if you’re interested in exercising your brain and keeping your mind sharp, then Big Brain Academy seems like a good series to check out. Brain vs. Brain is $29.99 on the Switch, and while the internet claims that you can complete the game in just a few hours, I imagine you could spend a lot more time simply trying to better yourself and competing with others.
