I’m still working my way through Miitopia, a charming RPG where you can choose the faces of every character in the game. Very soon, our Youtube playthrough shall be taking a break, which will be temporary or permanent depending on the views. I’ve already written a review about the demo, and now I’d like to write a little update concerning my experience with the next chunk of Miitopia. Spoilers ahead, though…is the story of Miitopia really that important?
So the demo ends just before our arrival at Greenhorne Castle. It was at this point that I had finally decided to put more effort into my choices for various characters’ faces, and alongside King Pringles, my remaining picks at the castle (the guards were chosen during the demo) included a cast of various Paper Mario characters, including the lovely Princess Nastasia! I also finally utilized the makeup feature to give my team member Crispin more detail, plus I created two more Mii’s for my future team. More on them soon.
Oh right, so spoiler alert, but…your first team gets kidnapped by Dark Lord Mr. Bean (your Dark Lord will vary…probably…), forcing you to change jobs and get a new team. I was rather upset at first, but I did get used to my new party eventually. I became a chef to keep my healing abilities (I was a cleric before), and my new team consisted of the energetic scientist Dr. Loboto from Psychonauts, the laidback thief Swaine from Ni no Kuni, and the cool pop star Glamrock Freddy from Five Nights at Freddy’s. Yes, this time the characters actually have fitting jobs. And while scientist was a new job, I don’t see myself ever wanting to use the other two new options of cat and imp. They’re just a bit too derpy for my liking, to be honest.
My new team has spent the entirety of their time so far in the desert, where we met the residents of Neksdor Town, trekked through a cave in search of the genie Tingle, and explored a pyramid on the hunt for more stolen faces. We also met the quizmaster, who questioned us on faces and general knowledge. To my surprise, they really meant general knowledge, as two out of three questions had nothing whatsoever to do with the game!
Initially, I was a bit disappointed because the variety of interactions between my characters seemed rather sparse. I was barely past the demo, and I was already seeing repeat outings and dialogue. Fortunately, as the game progressed, new things started happening again, such as new outing locations, including outings with my horse Clip Clop. Sure, repeats still happen, but it’s not as bad as it was at first.
To my surprise, I’m still having a lot of fun with this game. I really expected to be bored by now, but it’s quite charming, and I’m still enjoying the interactions between my team members. I have left off after completing the Great Pyramid, and I plan to continue in the near future. In the meantime, I’m already well aware that I’ll be losing my second team eventually, so I need to decide on who my third party is going to include. I was really attached to my first two teams, so the next one has to be just as good!
Oh, and if you want to use my Mii’s (Crispin Whytehead, Dr. Loboto, and Swaine), my Access Key is 5MKGH6B!
