A Very Spicy Chip Review

In the recent past, Mother Duck and I bought a variety pack of snacks for reviewing and general munching purposes.  Recently, we decided it would be fun to do another similar review, this time focusing on spicy snacks.  Like last time, our lucky inanimate contestants will be rated in order from worst to best, regardless of how this will affect their self-esteem.  So get yourself a glass of milk, and let’s get started!

5: Flamin’ Hot Cheetos – Okay, so we ran into a problem pretty early on that pertains to four of the five snacks on trial.  While Mother Duck and I enjoy spicy things, four of these snacks were bright red, signifying that they were positively enrobed in chile powder.  I’ve used chile powder in plenty of recipes, and I don’t feel it has much flavor aside from adding a bit of spice.  True to their name, these Cheetos were very spicy, but ironically enough, completely flavorless.

4: Flamin’ Hot Funyuns – I’m not super familiar with Funyuns.  They are shaped like onion rings, but the internet tells me that they do not contain onions beyond onion-flavored seasoning.  This is a bit of a tangent because these particular Funyuns were too busy impersonating fire for any actual onion flavor to come out.  These are quite similar to the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, except there was a bit of a sweet flavor, so at least they tasted like something.

3: Flamin’ Hot Limon Cheetos – While I’m not a big fan of lemons, I do enjoy the flavor of their green cousins, the lime.  Once again, this snack was quite similar to the previous two, but it managed to distinguish itself with a slight lime flavor.

2: Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon – These were a bit more promising, as they had a strong lime flavor, making them more interesting than the previous snacks on this list.  They are also shaped like sticks of dynamite, which might explain the name….

1: Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos – These, too, were quite spicy, but I think they had the most flavor out of all of the snacks that we mercilessly judged.  Instead of being positively smothered in chile powder, they had a nice jalapeno flavor.  I mean, I’m not the biggest jalapeno fan in the world, but I would still say these were easily the best!

Final Verdict: I’d still recommend you just buy some classic Cheetos….
