The Duck Returns…from a Trip Somewhere

For the last three months or so, I have been keeping a secret.  Before you begin jumping to conclusions, no, I am not secretly a goose.  I was actually planning a trip with my mom to Disneyland.  The secret was not from her.  She knew all about it.  The secret was just from everyone else because I wanted it to be a surprise.  (Yes, I did recently enter a sweepstakes, the prize to which would have been a free trip to Disneyland.  Clearly such a thing was not necessary when I already had a trip planned to that very place.  Nevertheless, who can pass up the chance to win a free trip to the “happiest place on Earth”?  And in case you were wondering, no, I didn’t win.)

If you guys recall, I recently decided to put a stop to the strange waiting period I have placed over my life.  It was the very reason I chose a new theme for my blog, painted a wall of my formerly barren room, and returned to working on my personal Youtube channel.  Once that was all said and done, I still had one final aspect of my life that I needed to do something about.  Return to Disneyland.  I spent nearly a decade wanting to return to this most wondrous of places (9 years and 6 months to be exact), and last January, I finally thought, what the quack am I waiting for.  Let’s just do this!  Any other visits included a single visit to Disney World some time back that I barely remember (I think it might have rained, though) and a trip to Disneyland that took place when I was but a wee duckling and couldn’t recall anything beyond Monstro and the teacups.  I simply can’t survive on so little.  I need more!

Ahem, despite my very infrequent visits, Disneyland has a very special place in my heart, to the point that it doesn’t take much to make me start weeping over the mere thought of its majesty.  Why is this exactly, when Disneyland was never a big part of my life, well, I’m not totally sure, but I might be able to partly explain my fascination with the place.  I mean, I partially like video games for their ability to allow us to, even if just temporarily, escape from this crazy world we live in.  I guess Disneyland is also a place where you can do just that, except this time it’s somewhere I can physically go.  Furthermore, there is nowhere else like it in the world.  (I’m not including the other Disney parks.  Of course those are going to be similar.)  Disneyland is beautiful.  Disneyland is magical.  Nowhere else do you see such pride.  The people who made this place possible, not just Walt Disney himself, cared about what they were doing.  Look down Main Street or at the many elaborately-detailed buildings of New Orleans Square or even at countless other details most other people miss and tell me this place isn’t one of a kind.

By now, I’m sure you’re all more or less curious about how our visit went.  I mean, I hope you are.  Are you?…  Well, if so, then you’re in luck!  I have some special content in the works for you guys that will discuss the details of our trip, including lots of photos and perhaps a video or two that was made possible thanks to a recent technological advancement in my life.  By that, I mean I got an HD webcam, which makes plopping my feathery self down in front of a computer and talking about random junk far easier.

I wish I had gotten the chance to grow up with Disneyland like many other lucky people.  But alas, it is too late for such dreams now.  All I can do now is grow old with it, and I think that will suit me just fine.

Duck of Indeed, Quite Possibly a Distant Cousin of Donald Duck…Except I’m Really Not

  1. Awesome! I worked at Disney World back in 2008 and again in 2010, and I had a blast over there, so I have a really special relationship with Disney. I am glad you were able to go to Disneyland and enjoy it! It truly is a wonderful place.

    1. That’s really cool! What kind of stuff did you do when you worked there?

Anyway, I definitely had a great time there. I want to make trips to Disneyland more into a regular thing. Life needs special days like this. Next visit, Star Wars Land should be open, which should be interesting to check out. I hope they bring back the Fantasmic show by then. I’ve never seen it in person, but it’s pretty awesome on Youtube.

      1. The first time I went there I worked as an Operations cast member, which basically means I worked at a ride. In my case, it was Goofy’s roller coaster at the Magic Kingdom, back when it still was the Barnstormer.

In 2010 I was a member of the custodial team, so I was taking care of sweeping the streets and emptying the trash cans around Liberty Square, Adventure Land, and Frontierland. It was awesome because as a custodian I could walk around the park freely if my area was sparkling, so I spend most of my day roaming the Magic Kingdom and helping people.

I am dying to go to Star Wars Land! And Fantasmic is a great show, but World of Color is far superior in my book.

      2. That’s pretty cool. That’s great that they let you wander around the park once you’ve done your work.

I’ve never seen World of Color. I should check it out on Youtube some time.
